Milnbank Housing Association successfully sold all 8 properties within the above development through the Homestake Scheme. The Homestake Scheme aims to help people on low incomes who wish to own their home but who cannot afford to pay the full price for a property. The scheme is mainly aimed at helping first-time buyers, but it can help others too.
The principle is simple - a grant is given to a registered social landlord to help them fund part of the price of a Homestake property. You will pay the majority share in the property - normally between 60 and 80 percent of the price - and the registered social landlord will use the grant to pay for the rest. The Homestake owner is the outright owner and is responsible for paying the mortgage and all other associated costs with the purchasing and running of the property.
