Milnbank Housing Association

The Management Committee

The policy making body

The Management Committee is made up of Association members and is the policy making body of the Association.

This means that it is Association members who make the important decisions about Association housing, though our full-time staff take care of day-to-day administration and management.

All Milnbank Housing Association Management Committee members receive training about their role as committee members and the responsibilities this involves.

Our Committee Members are bound by the SFHA Code of Conduct so that the membership can be assured that the highest standards are being observed.

Should there be any breach of the Code of Conduct, there are procedures which may result in the expulsion of a committee member.

Volunteers interested in making Milnbank a better place

Committee members do not receive any payment or benefits. They are volunteers interested in making Milnbank a better place to stay.

The Committee is elected by all the members at the Annual General Meeting and consists of a maximum of 15 members. The Management Committee may decide to "co-opt" other people (not necessarily members) if there is a particular need to wider representation or expert advice.

All elected members may serve for 3 years; one third stand down each year.

Management Committee members have the difficult job of making many decisions affecting their neighbours and to help them make fair and unbiased decisions, the staff observe strict anonymity in the presentation of all committee reports and discussions.

The Association is a publicly funded body and its records of Committee Meetings are freely available for scrutiny and are available in the Association's office so that all our decisions are public knowledge.

The work of the Management Committee is serviced by a senior member of staff, and deals with the details of Association business and develop Policy.

General Purposes Committee focus on staffing issues, finances and other general business items relating to the Association.

Housing Services Committee handles all housing management and maintenance issues and ensures that Association policies on rents, allocations, factoring and repairs are applied fairly and accurately.

Audit Sub-Committee deals with the financial issues and makes recommendations to take to the General Purposes Committee for approval.
